Novedades sobre el colegio / News on school for Tim

Holas, hace casi una semana que no me siento a escribir y tengo tantas cosas en la cabeza que espero que esta sea una de esas noches en que salen dos o tres posts de corrido. Veremos cómo nos va. 

Tim ha estado un poco mal de salud esta semana y luego mi Lunita cayó. Resfrío fuerte, pecho cerrado, en fin, la de siempre. Ya estamos mejor, pero aún quedan rezagos de malestar. 

Lo primero que quería contarles es acerca de los avances que hemos tenido con respecto al colegio de Tim. Como ya les había contado, el documento necesario para financiar la ayuda que necesita Tim no saldrá a tiempo y es por eso que el colegio hasta hace un mes no podía confirmarme si podría tener al personal necesario para la ayuda de Tim listo o no. Bueno, el jueves fue un día agitadísimo. Finalmente la psicóloga educacional fue al nido a ver a Tim y tuve la oportunidad de hablar con ella antes de que se vaya y me prometió que enviaría el informe a más tardar el miércoles. Vamos avanzando. Al menos eso es algo menos de que preocuparme. El miércoles empezare de nuevo a torturar a la oficina de Educación para que redacten el documento ya que los demás informes ya los tienen listos. 

El jueves también tuve una reunión en el colegio con los profesionales que están trabajando con Tim para ver avances y organizar los últimos detalles de la transición al colegio grande. Lo más importante que saque de la reunión es saber que realmente elegí el colegio correcto. Aun sin tener certeza de cuánto dinero adicional tendrán para ayudar a Tim han contratado a dos personas para que lo apoyen en el cole TODO EL DIA pagándoles desde su propio presupuesto, algo que no tienen obligación de hacer. Con esta ayuda desde las 9am hasta las 3pm Tim tendrá a una persona para ayudarlo a concentrarse, aprender a socializar de manera adecuada, adecuarse a los cambios, todo. 


Lo mejor de todo es que cuatro días a la semana tendrá a la misma persona que ha trabajado con Tim durante un año en el nido. Es decir, va con su 'amiga' Vicky. Ella ya lo conoce casi tan bien como yo, lo puede leer perfectamente y el le tiene mucha confianza y la quiere mucho. Es una bendición! El colegio me ha sorprendido pues no todos los colegios harían eso. 

El viernes recibí finalmente respuesta por escrito de la carta que queja que envié hace unas semanas al departamento de Educación, y básicamente en esa carta me informan que si el reporte no está listo para el inicio del año escolar, el colegio va a recibir ayuda para cubrir los gastos de personal por 25 horas a la semana hasta que el reporte esté listo. Eso significa que el acto de buena fe que dio el colegio será cubierto por el gobierno como esperábamos. Las 25 horas cubren casi todo el día escolar durante la semana. 

Es un alivio saber, ahora con mas certeza, que todas mis dudas y miedos pueden desaparecer pues se que tendrá la ayuda que necesita en un inicio y solo tendremos experiencias positivas. Estoy muy feliz.

Hiya, it's been almost a week since I have been able to sit and write and I have so many things in my mind that I hope that tonight is one of those nights where two or three posts can come out at once. We'll wait and see. 

Tim has been a bit under the weather this week and Luna has come down with the same symptoms as well. Bad cold, chesty, basically, the same scenario we get at least twice a year. They are doing better but still keeping them under the watchful eye of mum! 

The first thing I wanted to tell you about is the news we have got related to Tim's schooling. As I mentioned before, the statement is going to be late and that is why, a month ago, the school could't confirm whether or not Tim would be able to get the support he neeeded. Well, Thrusday was a very hectic day. The Educational Psychologist has finally come to see him at preschool and I managed to have a word with her and she promised to send the report by mid week. So from Wednesday onwards the Education office will be getting my calls again. 

On Thursday we also had a meeting at school with all the professionals involved with Tim to see what was going on and what needed to be done to aid the transition to big school. The most important thing I got from the meeting was knowing I chose the right school. Even without knowing about statements and how much funding they would get, school has hired two staff to look after Tim FULL TIME. This is not something they have to do but because it would aid Tim's transition they decided to do so. This means he has someone with him from 9am to 3pm to help him concentrate on the task on hand, help him learn to socialize in an appropriate manner, manage changes, everything. 


The best part is that four days a week he has the same one to one he has had for a year in preschool. His 'friend' Vicky is moving to school with him. She knows him almost as well as me can read him perfectly and he loves her and trusts her. That is such a blessing! The school has surprised me as not many schools would do that. 

Also, on Friday, I got a written reply from Education regarding my complaint letter. Basically they said that in the scenario the statement is not ready for the beginnning of the school year, they will be giving the school 25 hours funding until the statement is ready. This means that the school will no longer need to dip into their own funds but will be receiving the financial help they needed. Those 25 hours cover most of the school day during the week. 


It is such a relief to finally know that all my doubts and fears can go away because I now know my son will get the help he needs and we will only have positive experiences from now on. I am very happy!
